After investigations by the ZRP CID Homicide, Dzingwe, Chikumba, and Musundire implicated Constable Chanhuwa in the robbery. The rogue police officer was already on suspension for unlawful possession of a pangolin, for which he was arrested on March 8, 2023, near Maruta Shopping Centre.

The suspects appeared before a Harare Magistrate court and were remanded in custody until April 25, 2023.

The ZRP has warned armed robbery syndicates that they will face the full force of the law. The police also reiterated that they do not condone the involvement of errant police officers in criminal activities and that the law will take its course without fear or favour.

This case highlights the danger posed by rogue police officers and the importance of holding law enforcement officials accountable for their actions. The ZRP’s swift action in arresting the suspects and investigating the case is commendable, and it sends a strong message to would-be criminals that their activities will not be tolerated. The public can take comfort in knowing that the ZRP is committed to upholding the law and protecting citizens from crime.
