Sekuru Charles Chimbidzikai Machingambi (87) and his wife Mbuya Elvie Machingambi (74) of Majange in Masvingo, have passed away within 36 hours of each other after 50 years of marriage.
According to reports, Sekuru Machingambi passed away at their home on Sunday evening, while his wife Mbuya Machingambi died in a hospital on Tuesday morning. The couple’s daughter, Dr. Margaret Machingambi, confirmed that the two were inseparable and were always together, even when Sekuru Machingambi was ill for seven years.
Love That Endured Seven Years of Illness
Neighbours and family members who spoke to The Mirror said the couple had an unbreakable bond. “The couple loved each other and were always together, and Mbuya Machingambi is the one who nursed her husband through a seven-year illness,” said a neighbor. Even after Sekuru Machingambi’s death, his wife, Mbuya Machingambi, remained strong and received mourners until a few hours before her own passing.

A Heartbreaking Tragedy That Has Sent Shockwaves
The tragedy of the couple’s death has left the Ancient City in shock, as they were both well-known figures in the community. Sekuru Machingambi was a former bakery supervisor, while his wife was a teacher at Victoria Junior Primary School. “The community has lost two great people. They were pillars in their families, and they touched the lives of many people in the community,” said a family member.
The couple’s daughter, Dr. Margaret Machingambi, has arranged for her parents to be laid to rest together, side by side at the Lawn Cemetery. She confirmed that her father’s burial has been postponed from Wednesday to Thursday, so that her parents could be laid together.
