In a stunning twist of fate, Qhubani Moyo, the former MDC member and ex-Zimbabwe Electoral Commission official, has thrown his hat into the ring to represent Zanu PF in the Insiza North constituency of Matabeleland South.

With the Zanu PF primaries in the constituency looming, Moyo has already launched a fierce campaign against sitting MP Farai Taruvinga, a prominent gold dealer, in the hopes of securing a victory.

Despite losing the Insiza constituency twice to Zanu PF when he was a member of the opposition MDC, Moyo is now more determined than ever to claim the Zanu PF ticket and compete in the upcoming elections.

Few know that Qhubani Moyo was once the face of a popular condom brand, Protector Plus. In a previous interview with B-Metro, Moyo shared the story of how he was selected for the advertisement.

Despite rumors that he and his co-star, Stella Dozva, were romantically involved, Moyo confirmed that they were never a couple. “It’s funny how I was offered the chance to be the face on the condom advert. It was just a random pick where the designers of the advert were looking for someone with a handsome face which they say can be appealing to the masses and the same also went for Stella. What I can say is that I was chosen because of my handsome looks and ability to inspire young people to use protection.”

Despite being the poster boy for protection, two years after appearing in the Protector Plus advert, Moyo impregnated his girlfriend. This led to him becoming the subject of ridicule, with insinuations that he was not practicing what he had preached. However, Moyo was quick to quash these rumors, stating, “I am happy that the girlfriend became my wife.”

Now, with his sights set on a new challenge, Moyo is determined to leave his past behind and embrace a future in politics.
