A Cheating Accusation Leads to Violence

A Makoni man, Phillip Mufapaire, is accused of killing Tichaona Karongwe with stones after suspecting that he was having an affair with his wife, 52-year-old wife Agnes Fondishi. The 28-year-old Mufapaire is said to have punched Karongwe before attacking him with a brick, which resulted in serious injuries. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The Incident

The Manica Post reports that according to Inspector Norbert Muzondo, the incident occurred on May 6, in Makamba Village, under Chief Chikore’s area. Fondishi heard screams and went to investigate, only to find her husband attacking Karongwe who was lying down. She alerted the neighbors, who rushed to the scene and managed to arrest Mufapaire while others took Karongwe to the hospital.

Police Statement

Inspector Muzondo confirmed the incident and urged people to resolve their differences amicably through peaceful dialogue. “On May 6, Mufapaire from Makamba Village had an altercation with Karongwe, whom he accused of dating his wife, Agnes Fondishi. They started fighting, and the incensed Mufapaire overpowered Karongwe. Upon interrogation, Mufapaire revealed his suspicions of an affair between Karongwe and his wife,” said Inspector Muzondo.

Neighbourhood Response

The news of Karongwe’s death has caused shock and outrage in Makoni. Neighbors expressed their sorrow and disbelief at the tragic outcome of the altercation. “It’s very sad, especially for the family of the deceased. We are all in shock and mourning for Karongwe,” said a neighbor who asked not to be named.

The Aftermath

Mufapaire has been charged with murder and will appear in court soon. Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing.
