Four people tragically lost their lives in an accident on Friday morning in Murewa after the driver of a Toyota minibus lost control while trying to overtake another vehicle along the Murewa-Madicheche Road near Murewa Centre.
Mini Bus Speeding Before Fatal Crash
According to eyewitnesses, the minibus was travelling at high speed as it tried to overtake the other vehicle. Some of the passengers were thrown out of the vehicle as it rolled. The mini bus rolled several times, killing two passengers instantly and seriously injuring several others.
Driver and Another Passenger Died on Arrival at Murewa Hospital
Two of the injured, including the driver, died upon arrival at Murewa Hospital. One passenger has been transferred to Parirenyatwa Hospital in Harare, while the other two seriously injured passengers are still being treated at Murewa Hospital.
Police Confirm Fatal Accident
A spokesperson for the Zimbabwe Republic Police said,
“The ZRP reports a fatal road traffic accident that occurred at the five-kilometre peg along Murewa-Madicheche Rd on 14/04/23 at around 0900 hours where a motorist, who was driving a Toyota Quantum vehicle, with eight occupants, lost control of the vehicle,veered off the road and overturned several times before landing on its wheels. As a result of the accident, two people died on the spot and two upon admission at Murewa Hospital, while four others were severely injured. “
