Shocking!!! Check Out The South African Song That Won A Grammy Award Ahead Of Burna Boy’s Last Last

There is pandemonium across social media platforms following the Grammys’ awarding of ‘Bayethe’ by Wouter Kellerman, Zakes Bantwini and Nomcebo Zikode as the Best Global Song Performance ahead of  Burna Boy’s ‘Last Last’.

Considering the impact and numbers Burna Boy racked with Last Last, many would have expected the song to take the gong, but Bayethe did, a development that has sparked a debate.

Watch the music video below;

Reacting, some social media users told the adjudicators to revisit their criteria as African music has evolved from the old stereotypes.
@Martial FC
It fits the stereotype of the ‘Africa’ they love to see. The traditional clothing, the sound and of course the reconciliatiory white man. Closest they could get to Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Paul Simon
@Tshidi_G
Am proudly South African ne, mara i honestly get your point. Haibo Last Last was a hit. Literally just heard the song now on your tweet. Congratulations to the winners
@Noqatiko
Whoever is judging in this category must know that African music has evolved.We don’t sing like sihlala ehlathini anymore.Congrats to them though
However, a different camp felt Bayethe compliments African heritage hence the decision to award it.
@Princess
Maybe we should first look into what the committees consider when making a judgment. For me it seems they look for authenticity more than anything and maybe that’s why the likes of Lady’s black Mambazo have won repeatedly

Banwo Isaac Adekunle

To be honest the music video and song has cultural heritage
Remember the last time Burnaboy won it his album is all Africa freedom songs like wonderful, monsters you made etc
