Gonyeti last made the headlines when she was found after being abducted and beaten by masked gunmen in 2019.

Gonyeti who was quite popular for being critical of the police and government in her comic skits was said to have been taken from her home, beaten, forced to drink sewage, and dumped in the suburbs of Harare.

Her brother, Jonathan Gasa, said that about six armed masked men stormed her home, took her away, stripped, and assaulted her, accusing her of undermining the government with her skits.

Earlier on, inΒ  February of that year, Kureya was one of two comedians arrested for public nuisance. She was nabbed for wearing a uniform that resembled a police uniform in a skit.

Meanwhile, The release of a highly anticipated documentary exposing corruption in Zimbabwe has been suspended, sparking outrage among Zimbabweans.

Hopewell Chin’ono, a celebrity journalist, announced the suspension on social media, causing an uproar among netizens. Al Jazeera, the broadcaster responsible for the documentary, issued a statement to journalists saying that the report would no longer be released as planned and that a new release time would be arranged.

In response to the news, social media users criticized the broadcaster, with some suggesting that the delay was due to efforts to dilute the documentary’s findings.
