Jah Prayzah’s Epic Heroes Day Revelation: Oliver ‘Tuku’ Mtukudzi, the Unforgettable Hero of Our Time

Renowned musician Jah Prayzah expressed his admiration for the music of the late national hero Oliver ‘Tuku’ Mtukudzi, stating that it has deeply touched the hearts of many people and served as inspiration for numerous local artists to pursue musical careers.

Honoring Heroes on Heroes Day

On Heroes Day, celebrated on Monday, Jah Prayzah took to Instagram to pay tribute to Zimbabwe’s heroes and heroines, acknowledging their sacrifices and contributions to the nation.

“On this special day, (Heroes Day), we reflect on the sacrifices made by those who fought for our freedom and independence. We honour their bravery, commitment and remember that our nation’s story was shaped by their unwavering dedication,” stated JahPrayzah.

Tuku: A National Hero

Oliver Mtukudzi, affectionately known as Tuku, passed away in 2019 at the age of 66. In recognition of his immense impact on Zimbabwean music and culture, he was honored as a national hero, becoming the first artist in the country to receive such a prestigious accolade.

A Life of Responsibility

Born on September 22, 1952, in Highfield, Salisbury (now Harare), Tuku, as the eldest of seven siblings, understood the importance of shouldering responsibility from an early age, following the passing of his father.

Honoring the Legacy

In his heartfelt message, Jah Prayzah emphasized the significance of both historical and contemporary heroes. He highlighted the late great Dr Oliver Mtukudzi, whose music not only resonated with people’s hearts but also inspired countless local artists to pursue their dreams.

“I also want to shine a spotlight on our modern-day heroes. Those who are continually pushing boundaries and paving the way for others. People like the late great Dr Oliver Mtukudzi. Whose music not only touched our hearts, but inspired countless local artists to pursue their dreams,” stated Jah Prayzah.

The musician emphasized honoring past heroes and recognizing present builders for Zimbabwe’s growth and unity.

A Musical Tribute

Following Oliver Mtukudzi’s untimely passing, Jah Prayzah paid homage to the legendary musician by recording a tribute track titled “Gamuchirai.” The song, rich in traditional sounds, honors Tuku’s legacy and his totem, Samanyanga, reported Newsday.
