Hwedza Gotora Clinic Robbers Scared off by Alert Community: Flee Empty-Handed

A group of five armed robbers reportedly attacked Gotora Clinic in Hwedza, armed with machetes, knives, and logs. They overpowered the security guard and removed 12 solar panels from the solar yard. They also robbed a pregnant woman of her laptop and cellphone. However, they were disturbed while trying to open a cage where solar batteries are kept.

Hwedza Community alerts police

The suspects fled leaving behind their loot after being disturbed by members of the community who had heard some unusual noise from the clinic. The community reported the matter to the police, and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) responded swiftly and managed to intercept the vehicle with robbers at 10 Miles near Marondera.

One suspect arrested

One of the suspects, Johannes Mathias from Epworth, Harare, was arrested as per report from herald. The police recovered the stolen laptop and cell phone. However, the other suspects managed to flee by taking advantage of the darkness.

Manhunt launched

Police have launched a manhunt for the remaining five suspects who are now on the run. Mashonaland East provincial Police spokesperson Inspector Simon Chazovachiyi confirmed the incident in a statement. He thanked the Gotora community for being so united.

“Allow me to thank the Gotora community for being so united. They have shown the good effects of good community policing initiatives by coming out in their numbers after hearing the unusual sound coming from the clinic,” stated Inspector.

Inspector appealed to anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the five suspects to approach CID Marondera or any nearest police station.
