Harare Truck Driver Sentenced for Negligence After Injuring 6 People

A 51-year-old truck driver from Harare was sentenced by the Karoi Magistrate Courts for negligence after causing an accident that injured 6 people.

Domino Effect Causes Chaos

The driver of the HOWO Sino truck lost control, causing the vehicle to swerve and collide with a Dragon bus traveling in the opposite direction. Four passengers from the Dragon bus were left injured. Two passengers that the truck driver was with also got injured. All six injured persons were immediately taken to Karoi Hospital, where they were admitted and treated.

Harsh Punishment for Negligent Driver

The truck driver was sentenced by the Karoi Magistrate Courts to 6 months in prison, but the sentence was wholly suspended on the condition that he completes 210 hours of community service. Additionally, he was prohibited from driving any vehicle for 2 years.

“The driver was sentenced to to 6 months in prison imprisonment on condition that he completes 210 hours of community service. He was also prohobited from driving any vehicle for 2 years. The accused person was sentenced to a wholly suspended 6 months imprisonment on condition that he completes 210 hours of community service. he was prohobited from driving for 2 years,” stated the npaz press statement.

Reckless Disregard for Safety

The NPAZ press statement outlined the specific details of the driver’s negligence, including “failure to keep a proper lookout, failure to keep the vehicle under proper control, travelling at an excessive speed in the circumstances, and failing to stop or act reasonably when the accident seemed imminent.”
