In a twisted and grisly turn of events, a man from Chiredzi in Masvingo province met his untimely demise at the hands of a fellow villager. The victim, Henry Manyara (71), was brutally axed to death by Evans Bhazela (25), who claimed that he had dreamt of Manyara using mubobobo on him. For the uninitiated, mubobobo is a diabolical practice that enables one to have sexual intercourse with women without their consent.

The gruesome incident left Manyara’s brains splattered on the ground, as his helpless wife watched on in horror. While the real motive behind the murder is yet to be established, sources from the area claim that Bhazela had a long-standing dispute with the deceased, whom he had worked for in the past.

On the day of the murder, Bhazela went to Manyara’s homestead and accused him of possessing mubobobo. He then waited for the victim to return home, and when he did, Bhazela went into a trance-like state and proceeded to strike him repeatedly with an axe handle. The victim’s wife, who is disabled, was left to watch in horror as her husband was brutally murdered.

Bhazela was later arrested and charged with murder, but that did not bring solace to Manyara’s family.

As part of “Ngozi” reparations, the murder suspect’s family reportedly paid seven heads of cattle to Manyara’s family as compensation for the retrieval of the body from the mortuary and to cover funeral costs. They are yet to pay an additional 35 head of cattle as compensation for the heinous crime.

The incident has sent shockwaves throughout the village, with many now living in fear of falling victim to similar accusations. It remains to be seen how the authorities will handle this case and prevent such barbaric acts from happening again.
