Sir Wicknell Chivayo Rescues Highlanders FC: Fans Celebrate as Brito’s Debt Is About to Be Cleared

Highlanders FC fans are celebrating after Sir Wicknell Chivayo stepped up to rescue their beloved club by offering to pay all the dues owed to former coach Baltemar Brito and his assistant, Antonio Joao Torres.

Financial Troubles Lead to FIFA Sanctions

The financial struggle stemmed from a case brought before FIFA, where Brito and Torres accused the club of failing to meet its payment obligations. Brito is owed $14,778, plus an additional $237.71 in interest. Torres is owed $11,788, with $193.74 in interest. These debts will continue to accumulate at a rate of 5% interest per annum until fully settled. Highlanders FC received 45 days to resolve these debts but failed to meet the deadline. As a result, FIFA imposed a transfer ban on January 29, preventing the club from signing players for up to three consecutive registration periods.
