Tenant’s tantrum turns violent: Man shoots landlord for not having a room to rent

A man’s search for a room to rent in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, turned violent when he shot his landlord in the stomach after being denied a room to rent. According to Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube, the incident occurred at Pumula, Bulawayo, on Tuesday evening.

Denial of accommodations leads to landlord getting shot

Zimlive reports that the landlord, identified as Nhlanhla Nkomo, was shot in the stomach by the unidentified suspect who had visited his home seeking accommodation. The police reported that the suspect became angry after Nkomo told him there was no room available for rent. Ncube explained that the assailant pulled out a pistol and shot Nkomo when he refused to help him find alternative accommodation.

“The accused person was infuriated and pulled out a pistol from his trousers pocket, pointed at the complainant’s stomach, and fired one round and shot the complainant once the right side of the stomach,” said Inspector Ncube.

After shooting the victim, the suspect fled into the darkness while the injured Nkomo screamed for help. Fortunately, Nkomo sustained only a bruise on his stomach.

Police find spent cartridge

The police, who arrived at the scene, recovered a spent cartridge which they will use as evidence in their investigations. Inspector Ncube urged members of the public to help with any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect.

“It is sad that people resort to violence when their expectations are not met. We urge members of the public to resolve conflicts amicably,” added Inspector Ncube.

This incident highlights the dangers that landlords and tenants face, especially when they deal with strangers seeking accommodation. It is important to exercise caution when allowing strangers into one’s home and always prioritize personal safety.
