President ED Mnangagwa Shuts Down Rumors of Funding Sir Wicknell Chivayo
His Excellency, President Emmerson Mnangagwa, has dismissed rumors linking him to Sir Wicknell Chivayo’s philanthropic works.
Commitment to Constitutional Governance
During an interactive session with media editors at State House in Harare, the president asserted his commitment to the Constitution. He emphasized that he will not extend his term beyond the limits stipulated by law.
Upholding Democratic Values
President Mnangagwa made it clear that he respects democratic principles.
“I am a constitutionalist. I’ve two terms. These terms are very definite, and I am so democratic,” he stated. He assured the media that he would step down after completing his two terms in office. “When they come to an end, I will step aside, and my party will elect my successor. That is as clear as day.”
No Money for Chivayo
When a journalist inquired about the rumors of him handing money to Chivayo, the president was firm. He stated that he does not have that kind of money in his pocket, so there is no way he can give it to him for his philanthropic work.
“Explain yourself, pavanomuti kudii? Kuti ndini ndendamupa mari yacho, ndaiwana kupi? So find out first where you think I get the money to give Chivayo to give to the people,” stated the president.
Chivayo’s Philanthropy a Separate Matter
President Mnangagwa further stated that Chivayo‘s philanthropic efforts are independent. “Rather than wasting my time about someone using his money, you can’t bother me about someone who is philanthropic,” he stated.
