Mutare 20-Year-Old Man Arrested After Brazen Laptop Robbery

A 20-year-old man from Mutare, Munyaradzi Ngokonondo, was arrested for robbing a laptop using an okapi knife. Ngokonondo, along with his partner in crime, approached the unsuspecting victim along Robert Mugabe Road.

The Brazen Mutare Robbery

According to the reports, Ngokonondo whipped out his okapi knife and demanded that the victim hand over his belongings. The victim, fearing for his safety, complied and handed over his laptop bag, which contained an HP laptop, his driver’s license, wallet, and a Huawei cell phone.

A Heroic Intervention

However, the incident did not go unnoticed. A passer-by witnessed the robbery and rushed to the victim’s aid. The two brave men engaged in a physical altercation with the robbers, but Ngokonondo’s partner managed to escape with the stolen items.

The Dramatic Capture

Determined to recover the stolen goods, the victim and the good samaritan chased after the fleeing criminals. Ngokonondo, in a desperate attempt to escape, wrestled the victim and even stabbed him on the forehead with the okapi knife. However, the assailant was ultimately apprehended and a police report was filed.

Court Proceedings

Ngokonondo was arraigned before the Mutare Magistrate’s Court today, facing charges of robbery. He was sentenced to 60 months in prison, with 30 months suspended. Additionally, a further 6 months was suspended on the condition of restitution. In total, Ngokonondo will serve 34 months behind bars.

“The accused person was sentenced to 60 months imprisonment, of which 30 months was suspended. A further 6 months was suspended on condition of restitution. He will serve 24 months effectively,” read the NPAZ press statement.
