Mbare Anglican Senior Priest in Court for Indecent Assault Scandal

Mbare Anglican Church’s senior priest, Julius Zimbudzana, appeared in court yesterday, facing an indecent assault charge. Zimbudzana, aged 54, pleaded not guilty and was granted bail of US$50.

Court Appearance and Plea

Julius Zimbudzana made his appearance at the Mbare Magistrates’ Court, vehemently denying the allegations leveled against him. The court granted him bail in the amount of US$50. His next court date is set for March 6.

Details of the Alleged Incident

According to the State, Zimbudzana is accused of grabbing a 21-year-old woman from behind, slipping his hands into her T-shirt, and forcibly fondling her breasts.

The prosecution further contends that he attempted to drag the victim to his rectory office but was interrupted by his son, who entered the house after attending to a mechanic interested in purchasing a vehicle.

Victim’s Reaction and Report

Fearing for her safety, the victim fled from the house and subsequently stopped attending church services. The traumatic incident led her to report the matter to the Stodart Police Station, where she sought assistance.

Arrest and Legal Proceedings

Acting swiftly, the police arrested Julius Zimbudzana on February 8 in connection with the alleged indecent assault. The court proceedings will continue on March 6, as the case moves forward.
