Karoi Young Man Convicted for Molesting and Robbing Tuck Shop Owner in Her Own Bedroom

A young man from Karoi has been convicted for molesting and robbing a tuck shop owner in her bedroom.

Events of the Night

According to reports, on the 24th of July, the 51-year-old tuck shop owner closed her shop around 9 PM. She then retired to her bedroom located behind the shop. Early the next morning, she heard noises at her door. Someone was trying to break into her bedroom.

Panicking, the woman attempted to escape. However, the young man was already inside, covered in ashes. She screamed for help, but he charged at her, grabbing her neck and choking her. The struggle left her helpless on the ground.

The Assault

The attacker, Vitalis Chipomwe, 22, threatened the woman with a screwdriver and another sharp object. He then tore her nightdress before molesting her. After the assault, he picked up a wooden log and began beating her. She lost consciousness from the brutal attack. The woman sustained deep cuts around both eyes, a fractured jaw, and bruising under her right eye. A deep cut on her lower lip resulted in the loss of one of her teeth.

A Desperate Escape

When she finally regained consciousness, the woman sought help from a neighbor. Upon surveying her tuck shop, she discovered that US$500 was missing. This prompted her to file a police report, leading to the swift arrest of her attacker.

Justice Served

Vitalis Chipomwe appeared before the Karoi Magistrates Court facing charges of rape and robbery. The evidence against him was overwhelming, leading to his conviction. The court sentenced him to 30 years in jail.
