Harare Maid in Court for Stealing US$20K from Boss’s Boyfriend’s Flat
A Harare maid, Cecelia Chirwa, made her initial court appearance for allegedly stealing US$20K from her boss’s boyfriend’s flat.
The case was heard by Harare Magistrate Mrs. Ruth Moyo, who remanded Chirwa in custody pending her bail ruling.
The Allegations
The complainant, Tawanda Gabriel Makota Mhosva (44), reported that on January 9, he left US$20K in a small bag inside a monarch within his wardrobe at his apartment located at the corner of 3rd and Tongogara Avenue in Harare. Before leaving for Kadoma, he secured his apartment by closing all windows and locking all doors, entrusting the keys to his girlfriend, Sarah Mutsamwira, for safekeeping.

The Suspected Incident
According to the State, on January 11, Mhosva’s girlfriend gave the maid the keys to Mhosva’s apartment and instructed her to carry out regular laundry duties. When Mhosva returned from Kadoma on January 18, he received his keys back from his girlfriend. However, when he attempted to open the bedroom door, he discovered that it was unlocked.

The Discovery and Report
Upon further inspection, Mhosva realized that his money had been stolen. He promptly reported the matter to the police. Investigations revealed that Chirwa was the sole individual who had access to the apartment, having used the keys to open both the main door and the bedroom door.

No Signs of Forced Entry
Upon conducting an investigation, authorities noted that there were no signs of forced entry at the scene. The final report suggested that the perpetrator had utilized the available keys to gain access to the apartment.
