Findale Academy Headmaster Arrested for Scamming 34 O-Level Students Out of More Than US$6,000 for ZIMSEC Exam Registration

The headmaster of Findale Academy has been arrested for scamming 34 O-Level students out of more than US$6,000 for ZIMSEC exam registration.

Allegations of Fraud

Rutendo Zivanai, from Damafalls Phase 4, allegedly took payments from students seeking registration for ZIMSEC examinations. He received the money in March 2024, promising to register them for the exams.

Fraud Exposed

However, Zivanai failed to register any of the students. Instead, he misused their funds for personal expenses. The fraud came to light on October 14, 2024, when the students arrived at the examination center. They learned they were not registered as candidates and were sent away in shock.

Investigation Unfolds

After the incident, the students filed a police report. This led to an investigation into Zivanai’s actions. Investigators discovered that he was operating an unregistered school. The total amount of money the students lost was a staggering US$6,908, and nothing has been recovered.

The investigation revealed that Zivanai had deceived not just the students but their families as well. Many parents trusted him with their hard-earned money, believing he would provide legitimate services.

Court Appearance

Zivanai appeared before the Harare Magistrates Court today. He faces serious charges under the Education Act and for fraud. The court will determine the next steps for Zivanai, who now stands accused of betraying the trust of students and their families.
