Chitungwiza Husband Jailed for Assaulting Wife with Axe over Missing Money
A 39-year-old husband from Seke, Chitungwiza, has been arrested and convicted for assaulting his wife on the head using an axe over missing money.
Argument Escalates into Violent Altercation
According to court proceedings, the couple had an argument on July 10th, 2024, around 5 PM, regarding missing money. Enraged, the husband went to the bedroom, grabbed a small axe from the wardrobe, and proceeded to strike his wife five times on the head.

Neighbors Intervene, Perpetrator Flees but Later Caught
The couple’s loud fighting caught the attention of their neighbors, who arrived at the scene. Upon their arrival, the husband fled, but he was chased and apprehended by the mob, leading to his arrest.

Husband Sentenced to 8 Years in Prison
The husband appeared before the Chitungwiza Magistrates’ Court, facing attempted murder charges. He was sentenced to 9 years behind bars, with 1 year suspended for 5 years, effectively serving 8 years in prison.

NPAZ Press Statement Confirms Sentencing
“A 39-year-old man from Besa Village in Seke was arraigned before the Chitungwiza Magistrates’ Courts, facing attempted murder charges. The accused was sentenced to 9 years’ imprisonment, of which 1 year was suspended for 5 years. He will serve 8 years effectively,” read the NPAZ press statement.

Confrontation Leads to Arson Attack
According to reports, Mandlenkosi Mhlanga visited his ex-girlfriend’s house and discovered her in the kitchen with her new partner. When the couple refused to open the door, Mhlanga’s rage boiled over, and he set the kitchen ablaze. Fortunately, the two lovers managed to escape the burning home unharmed. They promptly reported the incident to the police, leading to Mhlanga’s swift apprehension.
