Chaos As Johanne Masowe eChishanu Prophets Fight Over A Dead Snake
Two prophets of the Johanne Masowe eChishanu sect, Madzibaba Matthew Matenga and Madzibaba Tongai Mandere, recently appeared in court after an argument over a dead snake.
Appearing before the courts, Madzibaba Matthew was applying for a restraining order against his rival, Madzibaba Tongai whom he said had insulted and threatened him, as well physical assaulting him in front of his congregation.
“He assaulted me with a stick in front of my church members, accusing me of prophesying illness in his family and calling out his family members’ names.
“He is also going around telling people that I am mentally ill and that I am not a true prophet,” said Madzibaba Matthew.

According to H-metro, In rebuttal, Madzibaba Tongai claimed that he had merely approached Madzibaba Matthew to inquire about the snake he had purportedly slaughtered at his shrine.
“I heard that he had killed a snake at my shrine and went to ask him where he put the snake.
“I did not assault him. I went to the community leaders and they said to me, ‘hauzivi here kuti Matenga anopenga’
Upon being questioned by the magistrate as to his intention with the snake, Madzibaba Tongai said.
“We are worshippers and people want to know about the snake,” said Madzibaba Tongai.
Ultimately, Magistrate Tamara Chibindi dismissed the application, while also admonishing Madzibaba Matthew that he should have reported the assault to the police.
