Born-Again Baba Harare Responds to Apostle Chiwenga, Defending His Transformation from Jiti to Gospel Music
Former Jiti artist Baba Harare, now known as King David, has responded to Apostle T.F. Chiwenga regarding his shift to gospel music.
The New Journey of King David
Last year, Baba Harare announced his departure from Jiti music, claiming he had repented as a new-born Christian. Baba Harare’s transformation sparked mixed feelings among fans and church members. Many supported his new direction, while others raised concerns.

Apostle Chiwenga addressed these concerns a few weeks ago. He stated that God does not forbid Jiti music or African culture. However, he criticized Baba Harare for manipulating the culture to fit his narrative.

“Jiti music is cultural music,” Chiwenga declared. “It is not against God; it is not a sin to sing it. It’s called entertainment.” He emphasized that Baba Harare’s inappropriate dance moves were inappropriate and not part of traditional Jiti music. “This dance of Baba Harare was not part of Jiti music; it was his own invention,” he added.
Baba Harare’s Response
In a recent interview, King David expressed his disappointment. He did not expect such a response from a church leader like Apostle Chiwenga.
