Beitbridge Female Drug Lord Caught Smuggling $10K Worth of Mbanje and Broncleer
A female drug lord from Beitbridge has been arrested for smuggling mbanje and Broncleer worth more than US$10K from South Africa into Zimbabwe.
Mbanje and Broncleer Acquired in South Africa
According to reports, the 27-year-old woman acquired mbanje and Broncleer syrup in Messina, South Africa, on the 10th of September 2024. She carefully concealed the drugs in blankets and stacked them into sacks. Afterward, she approached the bus crew and informed them that she wanted to send her blankets to Zimbabwe.

Deal Made with Bus Conductor
The bus crew referred her to the conductor for further arrangements. A deal was struck between the woman and the conductor to load the sacks onto the bus. She left her contact details, along with the information of the person who would collect the sacks on the Zimbabwean side.
Police Discover Drugs During Routine Search
That same night, police stopped the bus at a roadblock for a routine search. During the inspection, sniffer dogs detected drugs hidden in the sacks. The officers opened the sacks and discovered the concealed drugs.

Investigation Leads to Drug Lord’s Arrest
Upon questioning the conductor about the owner of the sacks, he revealed the woman’s details. Police conducted an investigation that led them directly to the drug lord, resulting in her arrest.
Significant Amount of Drugs Seized
The police report indicated that the drugs weighed more than 100 kilograms, with a street value exceeding US$10K.

Court Appearance and Charges Filed
The woman appeared in Beitbridge Court facing charges of unlawful dealing in drugs, along with another count of contravening the Medicines Control Act. She was remanded in custody until October 1, 2024.
