Bad News For Mthuli Ncube: Supreme Court Overturns High Court Ruling, CCC Candidates Get Green Light to Run

The tables have been turned in a dramatic fashion by the Supreme Court, granting a favorable green light to all 12 Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) candidates and 4 others to contest the upcoming Parliamentary elections. This decision has brought great jubilation to the CCC candidates, but it’s a bitter pill to swallow for the Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Professor Mthuli Ncube.

Before this, the High Court had handed a surefire victory to Mthuli Ncube in Cowdray Park, leaving him unchallenged. However, the recent Supreme Court ruling has changed the whole ballgame. Now, the Finance Minister finds himself in a tough electoral battle against CCC candidate Raphael Sibanda on 23rd August, vying for the parliamentary seat.

Zanu-PF Candidates Also Affected

But Mthuli Ncube is not the only Zanu-PF candidate affected by this ruling. The party’s candidates in Bulawayo Central and Bulawayo South are also caught up in the electoral fray, compelled to compete in the elections.

The three-member Supreme Court bench, comprising Alfas Chitakunye and Hlekani Mwayera, with Justice Tendai Uchena presiding, unanimously decided to overturn the Bulawayo High Court ruling, allowing the 12 CCC candidates to join the race in this month’s election, reported TheNewsHawks.

CCC Spokesperson Confirms Victory

After the Supreme Court’s ruling was announced, CCC spokesperson Advocate Fadzayi Mahere confirmed the victory, yet she expressed no jubilation because, in their view, the candidates should never have been removed in the first place.

She directly pointed at Mthuli Ncube, making it clear that he is well aware they are gunning for him. Mahere also extended gratitude to her party’s supporters and encouraged them to keep campaigning to secure a win in this year’s elections.

Mahere Gears up for the Election

“Mthuli Ncube himself knows that we are coming for him in Cowdry Park. The people of Bulawayo are going to speak and they are going to speak decisively on the 23rd of August 2023. To the citizens we say thank you very much for rallying behind these twelve candidates,” Fadzayi Mahere said.
