Armed Robber Shoots Two Detectives During Arrest Attempt at Girlfriend’s House in Bulawayo
Two police detectives were wounded while trying to arrest an armed robbery suspect in Bulawayo. Detective Assistant Inspector Richard Charamba and Detective Constable Albert Madziva were shot by the suspect, Simelweyinkosi Dube. Simelweyinkosi Dube now is believed to be on run. He was believed to be hiding at his girlfriend’s house in Cowdray Park when the detectives knocked on the door.
Alex Cabangani Moyo, Vusumuzi Moyo, and Mlungisi Sibanda were arrested and implicated Simelweyinkosi Dube during police questioning. The gang is accused of an armed robbery at Insindi Ranch in Gwanda. They stole cash, guns, and other items on July 30th, reported ZimLive.
“On July 31 detectives from CID homicide arrested Mlungisi Sibanda in Bulawayo city centre. He was caught along Jason Moyo Street between 9th and 10th Avenues after receiving information which linked him to the robbery case. The suspect implicated Alex Cabangani Moyo leading to his arrest in Cowdray Park, Bulawayo on August 1, 2023. The arrest led to the recovery of two pellet guns, 9mm Pak Retey Mod 92 firearm with five rounds and a Bulawayo agricultural show trophy. Alex Cabangani Moyo implicated Mlungisi Sibanda leading to an arrest at his house in Nketa 9 after a shootout. Alex Cabangani Moyo implicated Simelweyinkosi Dube, 28. He then led detectives to Simelweyinkosi’s girlfriend Siwinile Ndlovu,” stated Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi.
Appeal for information and support
Police have appealed for information leading to the suspect’s arrest. Ishmael Jassat, chairman of ZRP Business Against Crime Forum, urgently appeals for financial assistance to cover medical expenses for the two officers. Jassat called on the community to show solidarity by providing financial assistance.
“Today, I write to you with a heavy heart and a sense of urgency, seeking your support and assistance in a matter of utmost importance. Two valiant police officers from our crack team at CID Homicide who selflessly risked their lives to protect our community were shot in the line of duty earlier today,” stated chairman Jassat

The community can show support for the brave officers by uniting. The injured officers need immediate surgery for recovery. Their injuries are severe, and medical expenses are expected to be substantial.
