Alcohol and Water Claim Lives: Two Zhombe Men Lost Lives in Tragic Swimming Mishap

Two men from Zhombe tragically lost their lives after engaging in a swimming session subsequent to consuming alcohol.

The incident took place on Monday afternoon at Mhazhe Dam, and the authorities successfully retrieved the bodies of the victims.

Mbon’eni Mpofu, aged 20, and Thamsanqa Sibanda, aged 38, tragically drowned in Ncinya Village, Zhombe, around 3 pm on January 29, 2024. According to reports, the two men had been drinking beer and had gone to Mhazhe Dam for a swim when the incident occurred.

Police Retrieval of Victims

Authorities swiftly responded to the incident, successfully retrieving the bodies of the victims. National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the tragic drowning.

Three-Year-Old Girl Found Dead, Body Parts Missing in Guruve

In a separate and equally distressing incident, the lifeless body of a three-year-old girl named Caroline Makubhwakwa was discovered in a galley at the foot of Mavhuradona Mountain in Guruve. The young girl had gone missing on January 17, with a search effort undertaken by the police and her relatives.

Unknown Assailants and Ongoing Investigations

Caroline’s remains were found on January 25, with some of her body parts missing. Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi also confirmed the heartbreaking incident.

“The ZRP confirms a sad incident in which Caroline Makubhwakwa, a three-year-old female juvenile, was found dead with some body parts missing in a galley at the foot of Mavhuradona Mountain, Guruve, on January 25, 2024. The victim had been reported missing on January 17, 2024, after she had left her grandmother to go and play under a nearby tree in Mhokwe Village, Mushumbi. More details will be released as investigations unfold,” Assistant Commissioner Nyathi stated.
