Security Guard Behind the Mbare Musika Fire Arrest

A security guard has been arrested in connection with the devastating fire that destroyed Mbare Musika.

Allegations Surrounding the Blaze

Action Chakauya, 35, worked as a security guard at a premises opposite the market. According to reports, Chakauya, allegedly started the fire that engulfed Mbare Musika.

A Cold Night Turns Catastrophic

On the night of the incident, the weather was particularly cold. Chakauya reportedly decided to start a fire to warm himself. Unfortunately, a heavy wind swept through, spreading the flames to one of the main entrances at Mbare Musika.

Witnesses say he lost control of the fire, which quickly escalated. The blaze ultimately consumed the entire market. The estimated damage exceeds a staggering US$5 million.

Investigation Leads to Arrest

After waking up to the shocking news of the fire, Mbare Musika retailers launched an internal investigation. This investigation revealed that Chakauya was responsible for starting the fire. Armed with this information, the retailers filed a police report, leading to Chakauya’s arrest.

He appeared before the Mbare Magistrates Court, facing charges of negligently causing damage to property. Chakauya will return to court on October 21 for a bail ruling.
