Mbare Robbers Convicted for Stripping Elderly Grandfather, Mother, and Daughter Naked
A gang of armed robbers from Mbare has been convicted for robbing an elderly grandfather, a mother, and her daughter, leaving them naked.
Brazen Robbery
The court heard that on the 23rd of 2023, the grandfather and the other female victim, aged 48, boarded a silver Honda Fit headed to the town center. As they reached Mastones, Chibwana pulled out a hammer. He then threatened the two victims, ordering them to surrender their belongings. The grandfather attempted to fight back, but was grabbed by Doit Kapfunde before they searched the victims.

A Brazen Robbery Spree
The gang took the victims’ valuables, including cellphones, a laptop, cash, bank cards, and shoes. On a different day in August, the gang used the same modus operandi in Hopley, robbing a mother and her daughter who were on their way to town. They took valuables worth around US$130 before ordering the victims to remove their clothes, leaving them half-naked.

Heroic Samaritan Aids Victims
A good Samaritan who was driving behind the Honda Fit noticed the incident and came to the victims’ aid. The driver chased the Honda Fit until it hit a tree in a bid to flee the scene, leading to the arrest of the perpetrators.

Robbers Convicted and Sentenced
The perpetrators, Samson Kapfunde, Ngonidzashe Jongwe, Doit Kapfunde, and Kusasa Chibwana, appeared before the Mbare Magistrate’s Courts, facing robbery charges.
“The accused persons were sentenced to 10 years imprisonment, of which 2 years were suspended. They will each serve 8 years imprisonment effectively,” read the NPAZ press statement.
