Nyanga Man Sentenced to Prison for Bar Break-In and Drinking of 3 Bottles of Whisky
A 28-year-old man from Nyanga has been sentenced to 12 months in prison for unlawfully breaking into a bar and consuming 3 bottles of whisky until he passed out. The accused, Dickson Simango, was found guilty of unlawful entry charges by the Nyanga Magistrates’ Court.
Bar Break-In and Theft
On the night of April 11, 2024, around 2:00 am, Simango allegedly gained access to Nyamhuka 2 bar in Nyanga by removing an asbestos sheet and a portion of the ceiling. Once inside, he proceeded to pilfer a variety of food items and alcohol.

Intoxication and Discovery
During the commission of the crime, Simango consumed three 750ml bottles of whisky and devoured two 250-gram tins of beef, amounting to a total value of US$43.50.

As a result, he became heavily intoxicated and eventually passed out within the premises. The following morning, the bar’s owner stumbled upon him, leading to his apprehension.
Value of Stolen Items and Sentencing
The stolen items, including the consumed alcohol and food, were estimated to be worth US$266.80. However, only US$183.50 worth of items were recovered.

In light of the offense committed, Simango was sentenced to 12 months in prison, with three months suspended, subject to his good behavior. As for the remaining nine months, one month was suspended on the condition that Simango pays restitution in the amount of US$83.30. Consequently, he will serve an effective sentence of eight months.
