Tragic Sunday in Mbare: Father Kicks 2-Week-Old Infant to Death and 15-Year-Old Son Stabs Friend To Death
In a shocking incident that unfolded on Sunday in Mbare, a father has been arrested after kicking his two-week-old baby to death during a scuffle with his wife. The tragic turn of events took place when a heated argument escalated into a horrific act of violence.
Son’s Stabbing Over Stolen Cellphone
Adding to the already distressing situation, another tragedy occurred within the same neighbourhood. The couple’s 15-year-old son, Donel, was also taken into custody after he allegedly stabbed and killed his friend, Lovemore John, accusing him of stealing his cellphone.
According to H-Metro, eyewitnesses revealed that the argument between the teenagers quickly spiralled out of control, resulting in a violent confrontation that led to the fatal stabbing.
Residents Express Shock and Concern
The local community on Rusike Street was left in shock and disbelief over the unfolding events. One resident expressed their disbelief, stating,
“Ndiwo mashura chaiwo aya akonzerwa nekushandiswa kwezvinodhaka” (These are unimaginable deeds driven by substance abuse).
Scissors and Substance Abuse
The residents also revealed that Donel was known to carry a pair of scissors, which he used for cutting dagga, a street drug commonly referred to as skankie. Substance abuse was suspected to have played a role in the violent outburst that resulted in Lovemore’s tragic demise.

Lack of Timely Medical Intervention
Tragically, Lovemore lost his life due to the severity of his injuries. Concerns were raised by residents, who noted that if an ambulance had been called promptly, his life might have been saved. Instead, Lovemore was rushed to Sally Mugabe Central Hospital in a private vehicle, but sadly, it was too late.
Police Investigation and Official Statement
Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed that Donel is currently in police custody, and an investigation is underway. Inspector Chakanza provided details of the incident, stating, “The accused person stabbed the now deceased twice on the ribs with a pair of scissors. The now deceased sustained two deep cuts and was rushed to Sally Mugabe Hospital by the accused person’s relatives for medical examination. He was referred to Parirenyatwa Hospital where he died on admission.”
