In a heart-pounding tale of bravery and resilience, a young girl in Bulawayo miraculously escaped the clutches of her kidnapper, though not without sustaining several injuries. The nine-year-old heroine, accompanied by her guardian, had just departed from her school located in the Famona suburb and boarded a Nissan Probox bound for the city centre when the unthinkable occurred.

At their bus stop, B-metro reports, the unsuspecting female guardian alighted first, assuming that the child was following close behind her. However, to her utter shock, she realized too late that the car was already hurtling away with the little girl still trapped inside.

“I didn’t know what to do as I watched the car speeding. I tried to run after it but I could not. I was left speechless and worried that maybe the kidnapper had taken my child to kill her,” the distraught guardian said.

Yet, the courageous child was not one to be easily defeated. In a display of grit and determination beyond her years, she quickly threw her satchel out of the window while the car was still in motion and, when the vehicle reduced its speed, seized the opportunity to make her daring escape.

Without a second thought, she flung open the door and jumped out of the moving car, her left foot unfortunately getting caught and dragging her for several meters before she could finally pull it free.

The heroic child, with her arm fractured and her face swollen, was later found and immediately attended to by medical professionals. The incident was quickly reported to the authorities, and the Bulawayo police have since launched an urgent manhunt for the kidnapper.

“Anyone with information which could lead to the whereabouts of the driver of the Nissan Probox registration number AFW 1740 should phone any nearest police station or call us on 029-60358,” urged Inspector Abednico Ncube, a spokesperson for the Bulawayo police.
