Nyanga Man Arrested for Stealing Drunk Buddy’s More Than US$600 During Beer Drinking Spree

An 18-year-old man from Nyanga has been arrested for stealing his drinking buddy’s wallet containing more than US$600. Benard Tambara of Nyamhunga now faces theft charges after authorities apprehended him for the heist.

A Boozy Night at Nyamaropa

The court heard that on the evening of May 23rd, Innocent Matovanyika was enjoying a few drinks at the Nyamaropa business center. As Matovanyika reached into his pocket to buy another round, Tambara allegedly noticed the wad of USD cash.

Tambara Seizing the Opportunity

Fortunately for Tambara, Matovanyika got drunk, and he took advantage of the situation to steal the wallet from him. The wallet contained US$625 and bank cards.

Authorities Spring Into Action

In the morning, Matovanyika, upon realizing that he had lost his wallet, went to the nearby police station and made a report. The police immediately started the investigation that led to the arrest of Tambara later that day. Unfortunately, the money was not recovered.

Harsh Sentence for the Nyanga Man

During the court proceedings, Tambara was sentenced to 25 months imprisonment. Of the 25 months, 6 months were suspended on the condition of good behavior. Another 9 months were suspended on the condition that he restitutes the money he stole. The remaining 10 months were suspended on the condition that he completes 350 hours of community service.

“The accused person was sentenced to 25 months imprisonment, of which 6 months was suspended on condition of good behavior. 9 months was further suspended on condition that the accused person restitutes the stolen money. The remaining 10 months were suspended on condition that he completes 350 hours of community service,” stated the NPAZ press statement.
