Harare’s Heist of the Year: Friend’s Car, USD 1.5K Cash, and Phone Vanish in Midnight Mayhem
In a shocking turn of events, a man from Harare has been charged with stealing his friend’s car after a night of heavy drinking. The accused, George Chatambudza, appeared in court yesterday to face charges of theft. The stolen vehicle belongs to his friend, Jonathan Shaw.
The Night of the Drinking Spree
According to the State’s submission, Chatambudza and Shaw embarked on a drinking spree in Greencroft that lasted until 2am. It was during this time that Shaw became heavily intoxicated and requested Chatambudza to drive him home. Chatambudza, seemingly agreeing to Shaw’s request, took Shaw’s car and drove him home.
The Shocking Discovery
The following morning, Shaw woke up around 11am only to find that his car was missing from its usual parking spot. To add to the distressing situation, Shaw realized that he had left his cellphone and a significant amount of money, US$1,500, inside the car. Shaw immediately reported the incident to the police, hoping for a swift resolution to this unfortunate turn of events, reported H-metro.
The Arrest and Accident
On Tuesday, Chatambudza was involved in an accident while driving Shaw’s stolen car. When the police arrived at the scene and conducted a routine check, they discovered that the car had been reported stolen. This led to Chatambudza’s arrest. The accident further compounded the legal trouble Chatambudza now finds himself in.
The consequences of Chatambudza’s alleged actions are severe. He now faces charges of theft and potentially additional charges related to the accident. If found guilty, he could face significant penalties, including imprisonment and fines. Additionally, the incident has strained the friendship between Chatambudza and Shaw, leaving Shaw feeling betrayed and violated.
