Bulawayo Man Who Caught Wife Red-Handed Sentenced To 17-Years In Prison For Assaulting Chikomba
A man from Bulawayo has been sentenced to 17 years in jail after he battered his love rival and inserted a vibrator into his behind before piercing his manhood with a thorn. Desire Moyo, 28, was facing two counts of assault and aggravated indecent assault. He was convicted and sentenced after a full trial before Bulawayo regional magistrate Dambudzo Malunga. The magistrate slapped him with one year for assaulting his victim and 16 years for aggravated indecent assault, suspending two years on condition of good behaviour.
Extreme Levels of Anger
The magistrate noted that Moyo was angry because of his wife’s infidelity, but took his anger to extreme levels when he handcuffed his victim before punching and kicking him several times all over the body causing him to soil himself. The victim was defenceless since he was handcuffed while he was also being battered indiscriminately. B-metro reported that, when Moyo inserted the vibrator into the victim’s rear he lowered his dignity.
The Man’s Defence
In his defence, Moyo said he committed the offence after he stumbled on a string of raunchy WhatsApp messages that his wife Patience Siko Ncube was exchanging with his love rival, detailing all sex styles that they used to do and how his wife was good in bed. Moyo said his love rival also admitted that he was in love with his wife, which had angered him.

Moyo violently grabbed his love rival, slapped him, and kicked him several times all over the body. In a fit of rage, he pulled off his victim’s pair of trousers and underwear and inserted a vibrator into his behind. He even threatened to stab his co-tenants with a knife. Moyo returned to his bedroom and found his still naked victim groaning in agony and pierced his manhood with a thorn. The victim soiled himself, bled, and suffered a swollen face and buttocks.
Reporting the case
One of the tenants rushed to Khumalo Police Station and reported the incident. Police attended the scene and found a pink vibrator and a knife in the house and launched a manhunt leading to the arrest of Moyo in Nkulumane suburb. Constance Tatenda Mathaba prosecuted the case.
Zimbabwe‘s Justice System Faces Backlash Over Light Sentences for killers of Wives
The sentence of 17 years for aggravated indecent assault and assault has raised questions about Zimbabwe’s laws and justice system. In contrast, some men who have killed their wives have walked away with as little as only 3-years in jail.
In 2020, Japhet Mapfumo from Victoria Falls was sentenced to 3 years in prison for killing his wife after beating her to death for gossiping about his adulterous affairs. High Court judge Justice Nokuthula Moyo presided over the case in March 2020.
In another case, Boniso Sibanda was sentenced to 3 years in prison for beating his wife to death. High Court judge Justice Christopher Dube-Banda presided over the case in October 2020. Justice Dube-Banda agreed with Sibanda’s claims that he had been provoked and reduced the charge from murder to culpable homicide.
The judge then sentenced Sibanda to 5-years in prison after convicting him of culpable homicide. However, Sibanda only served 3 years in prison after the judge suspended 2 years on condition of good behaviour.
